What’s My Age Again?

Blink 182 just dropped a new song today, ‘Blame it on My Youth,’ and I am loving it so far! They’re style has changed a lot over the years (obviously, no one can stay exactly the same that’s boring), but it got me thinking about how much my music tastes have changed as well. In our last post, Kheli and I made a list of songs we like to workout to (which was incredibly hard because the tempo really depends on the type of workout, and then we ended up just listening to a lot of different songs instead of creating a list…it was a process!); I realized, so many of the songs are from bands I have known for ages! I try to keep up to date on music, because it has always been something I love, yet, I feel like it is so much harder to find music that moves me the same way it did before.

There is almost that feeling of being a grumpy old lady when I think music isn’t the same as when I was a kid…but that’s a good thing right? The diversity of the music industry has opened up so much; there are so many different forms of rap, metal, and rock sub-categories. However, I go to what I know and am happy singing/screaming along to in the car. I’ll hear a new song and think things like: Linkin Park did that better, or the metal now isn’t like the metal then…these comparisons are starting to limit my experiences. Should I be blaming my youth for setting me into my likes and dislikes so strongly that it’s hard for me to expand my interests?

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I need new music because my Spotify only offers me what I know, so any suggestions are welcome!

Unless it’s ‘Old Town Road.’
